Advanced TVET College of Excellence was founded by Dr V S Naiker who is a Lecturer in the EDIT Division at the WITS School of Education he lectures Mechanical Technology and Technika courses to BED students. His experience in both Technology education TVET research and practice is extensive. After completing his undergraduate studies in the technical vocational fields, he perused a career in the Education sector with more than 29 years of experience in the field of FET education in different positions from TVET lecturer HOD – Principal – Deputy Chief Educational Specialist.
In 2009 he was appointed at Wits School of Education as a lecturer in Technika Education where he presently offers for the past 10 years FET Mechanical Technology and Technology Education to BEd students. Since his appointment at WSoE he completed his PhD and have been tasked with the responsibility as EDIET (Engineering) Department course coordinator for FET, EGD and Technology courses. Part of his teaching responsibility also includes his participation in the supervision and assessment of B.Ed. and post grad students. In addition to his core teaching he has compiled the training manuals, coordinated and taught the Practical Hand Skills training program to second year chemical and metallurgical engineering students from WITS School of Chemical and Metallurgical Engineering.
His teaching approach has two major aims: to make the trainee teacher understand the subject content and develop his/her pedagogic skills. Following his own training traditions and experiences, his beliefs is that the subject knowledge should be approached from a variety of angles to explore the instructional characteristics that are needed in order to ensure correct implementation of the curriculum with, regard to integrating theory and practice.

Now as a researcher he is continually exploring vocational pedagogy and vocational didactics in order to enhance TVET in South Africa. His background and experience in the education and training sector and involvement in Technical Vocational Education had placed him in a position where I was requested to participate in a forum to develop policy, framework for FET College Lecturer training and development in South Africa. The new qualification that is the Advanced TVET Diploma will be rolled out for the first time at WITS in 2021 the academic year. He believes that he has the following competencies:
